Course overview

Introducing you to the skills required for designing and manufacturing garments in the fast-paced, exciting fashion industry.

Course description

This course gives you the opportunity to explore your creative side, developing an understanding of and basic skills in the areas of fashion design and garment manufacture. You will build a portfolio of work to advance to HND Textiles with Fashion Design or HNC Fashion Business.

Each year culminates in a fashion show.

Drawing skills for fashion
Fashion design and illustration
Garment construction
Production of two garments
Fashion forecasting
Use of industrial sewing equipment
Surface and textile design
Fashion history

What you will need

A list of materials will be sent to you before the start of the course.

Entry requirements

Four National 5 passes including Art & Design and English/ Communication

Completion of an appropriate SCQF Level 5 course – Introduction to Art & Design
For those returning to education, life skills and experience may allow entry.

Learning outcome

SQA units in Art & Design (SCQF Level 6); students successfully completing this course may achieve NPA Fashion Design & Manufacture (SCQF Level 6).
